“Do not trust your memory; it is a net full of holes;
the most beautiful prizes slip through it.”
(Georges Duhamel)
Before I found the
above quote online, I already knew that I shouldn’t trust my memory very much.
One day while walking and listening to an audiobook, many ideas come to mind.
But it was such a waste because I didn’t record it in paper. Instead, I committed
it all to memory. By the end of the day, we all know what happened – I forget
most of good ideas and insights!
The only thing worse than not being able to come up
with an idea is thinking of an amazing idea, not writing it down, and then
forgetting it. You might
think you will remember but you won’t. For example, what was the sermon five weeks ago all about?
Now, you may
think you will remember, but you won't. Thus, having a small notepad or
notebook and pen or digital recorder with you at all times guarantees that any
ideas that comes to mind will not escape (unless you lost them). I keep my
notebook in my beg everywhere I go. ‘Memo’ application in my phone also is very
helpful. Remember: Don’t trust your memory. Think of many good ideas and write
it down!
