After watching Computer History Museum channel
interview Walter Isaacson, author of Steve Jobs: The
Authorized Biography, I instantly mesmerized by Steve Jobs’
personalities. I then watched BBC’s Steve Jobs Documentary:
Billion Dollar Hippy and Discovery Channel’s
iGenius: How Steve Jobs Changed the World on Youtube. After that, I went
to Popular Bookstore to get any books on Steve and I found a very great book
offer of Jay Elliot’s The Steve Jobs Way:
iLeadership for a New Generation for RM15 only! Usually it’s RM85.90.
Wow! Awesome!
When I or anyone think of intuitive
leadership, innovative thinker, visionary, and world changing creative-idea guy,
one cannot not think of Steve Jobs and his company Apple. Have you heard it
famous “Think Different” campaign before? Not long after some conflicts and
leadership problems in his own founded company, Steve Jobs returned to Apple. When
he returned, the iconic “The Crazy Ones” commercial was aired as part of the
larger “Think Different” campaign. What was less known at the time was that
Steve Jobs write the commercial himself. He wanted to revive the company and inspired
not only its customers but its employees as well. The version of “The Crazy
Ones” that Steve himself narrates didn’t aired until after his dead. If you already
watch the commercial, you will remember this legendary speech:
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re
not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote
them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t
do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race
forward. And while some may see them as
the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think
they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Mind you, there’s a fine
line between creativity and insanity. I don’t mean (I think Steve Jobs also don’t
mean) clinical insanity – there’s nothing good about that. But when I say “Be
Crazy, Think Differently” I mean a kind of functional craziness that should
inhabit our creativity. That wacky and insane-sounding concepts of ideas are
what I’m talking about. Be crazy. Remember,
not all crazy ideas will worked out. Sometimes crazy ideas has to come at the
right time. But what is sure is that the world need “The Crazy Ones” – are you
the one?
Be crazy, think differently
